Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams Conclude Season at Regional Meet



The Lady Buffs placed 11th as a team at the South Central Regional meet

JOPLIN, Mo. - Three Buff runners turned in personal best times, while sophomore Kristie Hartsfield continued to be the top runner on the Lady Buffs' side as both the West Texas A&M men's and women's cross country teams concluded their season on Saturday at the NCAA-II South Central Regional meet, hosted by Missouri Southern.

The Lady Buffs finished the meet in 11th place overall on the 6K course with a team score of 254 after placing third in the Lone Star Conference Championship during their last meet. Hartsfield came in 30th place individually after turning in a personal best time of 22:45. The Perryton, Texas, native has been the Lady Buffs top runner in five of six meets this season.

Senior Jisel Bailon crossed the finish line in 45th place during her final race as a Lady Buff, posting a 23:27 time to come in just six seconds ahead of teammate Mariana Chavira, who finished in 56th place. Junior Belinda Castanon posted a 62nd place finish (23:50) while freshman Becca Rapstine ended the event in 73rd place (24:00).

Rounding out the WTAMU contingency on the women's side were Delinda Hill and Sharen Diggs who finished in 81st and 82nd places, respectively.

For the Buffs, three runners - Jose Velaszquez, Thomas Harris and Jose Huerta - all set season best times in the field of 116 runners. Velaszquez again was WT's top runner, finishing in 77th place overall with a time of 34:24, while Harris, a freshman from Amarillo's Caprock High School, posted a 90th place finish with a time of 34:43. Huerta finished the 10K course in 98th place with a time of 35:11.

Also competing and finishing in 112th place was Isai Saucedo with a time of 37:33.
