CANYON, Texas - The 2007 season came to a close for the West Texas A&M softball team on Saturday afternoon, as the Lady Buffs dropped both games of a doubleheader at Lady Buff Yard to visiting Texas Woman's University. The Lady Buffs conclude the year with a 15-38 overall record, marking a four game improvement in the win column over the program's inaugural season a year ago.

The Pioneers took Saturday's opening game by the final of 5-0, scoring all five of their runs in the third inning, when they were able to hit WTAMU starter Andrea Renteria hard. Overall, Renteria pitched well in the contest, tossing her 15th complete game of the season. Junior shortstop Kelsi Jensen collected two hits to lead all Lady Buff batters at the plate.

During the second game, the Lady Buffs got a standout pitching performance from junior Shayna Duncan, who limited TWU to only six hits and kept the Pioneers off the scoreboard all but once in the third inning. Unfortunately, the WTAMU offense could not cash in on its opportunities, as the Lady Buffs out hit the visitors, 9-6, but left 11 runners on base.

Prior to the game, WTAMU honored third baseman Brooke Guidry, who was the team's only senior the year. The Lady Buffs will resume practices next fall when players and newcomers begin preparations for the 2008 season.
