Women's Golf Places Fourth at Cactus Thaw

SILVER CITY, N.M. - After shooting a 361 in the first round, the West Texas A&M women's golf team improved their second round score to 336 to place fourth at the Western New Mexico University Cactus Thaw. The Lady Buffs ended the tournament with a combined 697, finishing 61 strokes behind the hosts who took first place. Senior Beth Nussbaum was the top finisher for WTAMU, placing 10th with a combined score of 165, including shooting a 79 on the tournaments final day, the third best score of the round. Jessica McKay of Grand Canyon University took home the individual honors with a 152 final score. Among the Lady Buffs' other finishers were Whitney Osborne, who finished tied for 13th after shooting 170, freshmen Mollie Peterson and Kaylee Zaiontz, who finished 15th and 19th respectively, and sophomore Krista Williams who placed 21st. Peterson ended the tournament with a score 176, while Zaiontz shot a 186 and Williams finished with a 191. The Lady Buffs will head to San Antonio, Texas, the weekend of Feb. 25th for a tournament hosted by St. Mary's. |
