CANYON, Texas - For the 30th consecutive contest the Lady Buffs walked off their home court a winner, defeating Texas Woman's University, 89-72, on Saturday in front of 1,353 fans at the First United Bank Center. With the victory, No. 9 West Texas A&M improves to 21-3 on the season and remains perfect in Lone Star Conference South play with a 10-0 league record.

Senior Emily Brister was again the offensive leader for the Lady Buffs, as the team's leading scorer on the year paced all players with 28 points to help the Lady Buffs capture their eight straight win. The sophomore from Amarillo was impressive from beyond the three point arc, connecting on 5-of-8 shots from long range, and adding nine points from the charity stripe where she was a perfect 9-of-9 shooting.

Fellow second year player Courtney Lee chipped in with 12 points on the night, while senior Natalie Wheeler rounded out the Lady Buffs in double-figures with 10 points. Sophomore Kylee Aleman tied career high with nine points on the night connecting on four of eight shots in 11 minutes of action.

In the game's early goings, it was the Lady Buffs that got off to a hot start, using an early 8-0 run, highlighted by three-point baskets from Brister and Natalie Wheeler to build a 10-2 advantage. The Pioneers attempted to maintain the pace, but were slowed by 15 first half turnovers. After 20 minutes of play, the Lady Buffs held a 45-32 advantage and were paced by Brister, who led all scorers with 17 points during the opening half.

During the second half, Brister continued her scoring penchant, added 11 more points as the Lady Buffs held a 23-17 advantage on the boards to seal the victory.

For the game, WTAMU shot 48.4 percent (15-of-31) and was solid on the defensive end, forcing 26 TWU turnovers.

The Lady Buffs return to action next Wednesday as they host LSC South rival Angelo State in a 6 p.m. match up at the First United Bank Center. In an earlier meeting this season, WTAMU needed an impressive late comeback effort to escape San Angelo with a 72-71 victory over the Rambelles.
