Men's Soccer Recognized with Four SSC Academic Honors



Sophomore midfielder Jacob Fynboe Jensen

CANYON, Texas - Senior defender Kenneth Christensen and sophomore midfielder Jacob Fynboe Jensen have been honored by the Southwest Soccer Conference for their academic achievements by being named to the 2007 All-Academic team. Also collecting academic accolades for the Buffs are junior defender Austin Ridling and sophomore midfielder Adi Dzebic, who both were named to the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Jensen is a general business major from Horsens, Denmark, who has a team-leading eight assists on the season. In addition to his assist tally, he is tied for second on the team with six goals for a total of 19 points.

Senior captain Christensen has a perfect 2-for-2 mark in penalty kicks this season as part of his four goals. He also is tied for second on the team in assists, with six and has started in all but one game for the Buffs. The Hedensted, Denmark, native has been a force on defense for WT as he helped freshman goalkeeper Shane Taylor preserve a program record nine shutouts.

Due to many season-ending injuries, Dzebic is in his first complete season with the Buffs. He scored one goal and tallied one assist this year and is studying business management with a minor in marketing.

Ridling is a strong presence in the defensive end of the field for the Buffs and has helped the squad allow just 15 goals against (0.82 average) this year. He is a mass communication major from McKinney, Texas.

The Buffs are set to host the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament beginning Thursday, Nov. 8. WT is the top seed and is scheduled to play No. 4-seed Ft. Lewis at 2:30 p.m. following the conclusion of game one, which features No. 2 Midwestern State vs. No. 3 Metro State beginning at Noon. The second round match pitting the winner of each game is scheduled for Nov. 10 at 1 p.m.; the winner of the second round game will advance to the NCAA-II Regional Final on Nov. 17 or Nov. 18.
